The New Moon soundtrack has quickly made a buzz in the indie music world, and deservedly so. If you haven't listened to it yet, here's a brief synopsis of the album.

To be honest, I had never even heard of the show or the movie until I found out about the soundtrack recently. It wasn't until after reading a review for the album that I even knew what it was.

I'm still confused by the fact that these bands are on the New Moon soundtrack. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if half of these bands had never even heard of the show before they were asked to make music for it.

Whatever their motives were for agreeing to do this together, the end result is pretty fascinating. I've found myself listening to this soundtrack quite a bit since I got it last week, and while I'll never see the movie, I'll definitely be listening to this some more.

With big names like Grizzly Bear, Bon Iver, Thom Yorke, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and others, this is the best compilation CD I've heard since Dark Was the Night came out earlier this year.

The guitar based songs here are great, and some thrilling solos capture the vampire essence of the movie throughout. The electronic based tracks are pretty intriguing too, with a spooky feel to them that blends right into the theme of the soundtrack.

Look past the production that they've created this soundtrack for, and focus on the artists. They've put forth their best efforts on this release.

When I bought Pablo Honey and started (as I always did with new CDs) reading the lyrics I noticed that Creep was actually the first song Radiohead had written. I was surprised mainly because I thought it was so good that only a truly experienced band could have written it.

Creep impressed me so much that I did what I do only with bands and songs that I think are really great - I did some research on it. From what I can find out the lead songer Thom Yorke wrote the song about a fellow student who came and watched one of Radiohead's shows while the band were still at Exeter uni. In fact, Radiohead's guitarist has quoted as saying that Thom started following this poor girl around campus, and it's this that prompted him to write the song.

Creep, and possibly Radiohead, only became successful because it became very popular in the Unite States. A radio station in San Francisco heard it and started playing it, and it then spread to other stations and MTV. After the success in the states Radiohead re-released the song and it reached No 7 over here in the UK.

The trouble with Creep was that Radiohead ended up disliking it during the mid to late ninties. They played it less and less in their live shows and according to wikipedia they didn't play it once between 1998 and 2001. It has, thankfully, started to be played again!
