Music as a Creative Hobby

By Gareth Randle

A very popular way to relax and exercise the creative portion of our brain is through playing a musical instrument. Although learning can be tough at times the rewards far outweigh the difficulties and frustrations. We take a look at some of the most popular musical instruments around that children and adults alike love to master.

No one can contest the popularity of the piano, with such a beautiful sound this instrument is revered and enjoyed around the world. Admittedly this isn't the most lightweight of instruments and it can be impractical to play if you don't have one of your own, you can't really carry it around with you! Many composers and masters of the piano have made though and cemented their careers using this instrument.

The game Guitar Hero was created for a reason - the immense popularity of the guitar. Guitarists in featured and famous bands are respected and emulated throughout the world. For reasons still unknown it is one of the coolest instruments to learn to play and it has the ability to create instant status for those who master it.

As a childhood musical instrument the violin is also extremely popular, especially during school years. With such a unique sound, when one reaches advanced levels with this instrument the complexities are fascinating to both watch and listen to, both in a soloists performance and as part of an orchestral or other musical group's performance.

Our own voicesthere's a reason why the X-factor is so popular throughout the western world. The reach some can achieve with their voice is immense, sopranos, tenors and bass are all types of voice that belong to the art of opera singing but there are also pop singers, rappers, classical singers, jazz singers and beat boxers - the range of the voice is vast and it's an extremely important instrument, one that we all have the ability to play!

The flute is the final instrument on our list. As another instrument with a unique sound this is another common one for those at school to learn. Music has an immense power over all people whether this is through inspiring emotion or bringing up old memories we thought we'd forgotten over time. Musical memory is extraordinarily powerful and something wonderful that we can all enjoy and relish.
