When you are planning the reception after your wedding, the music is one of the biggest choices you will have to make. A lot of couples go to the expense of hiring a live band to play. Others go the other direction and just have recorded songs to save money. Still others employ the services of a good Bay area wedding DJ to help make their day special.

When you interview the person who will be handling the play list for you, you should expect that person to be interested in your tastes, the appropriateness of songs for the guests, especially if children will be present, and the atmosphere you want to create. If you are unfamiliar with the DJ, you might ask him or her to provide you with videos of parties worked.

A dedicated DJ is often better than hiring one from a company that also does, for example, karaoke. Choose a DJ who is willing to talk to you, ideally face to face, to find out exactly what you need to make your night perfect. Also, it helps if the DJ is willing to be flexible and improvise a little - a good DJ can read the crowd and may tweak the order of songs accordingly.

You may have friends or family members who have used a particular DJ for a similar event or have attended a party where a particularly good DJ hosted the music. This could make you a lot more comfortable with your final choice. If you don't know anyone who can recommend someone, doing some online research may be your next step. DJs are recognized with awards if they are especially talented and popular. You might go through the list of WeddingWire Couples' Choice award recipients and see there is one near you.

Planning nuptial festivities can be very stressful, confusing, and expensive.

Getting the musical decisions out of the way early will be one important thing you can cross off your list.
