The Art Of Indie Rock Music Video Promotion

By Eric Stone

There is fossil evidence that early man was musically inclined. This fossil evidence includes hollowed bones, essentially rudimentary flutes. No surprises there. Music is essentially to good times. The right aria can make the emotions swell. Most people work out to a workout mix for this very reason, as the right song can distract a person from how tired they are.

The culture of celebrity has always fascinated the masses. From the gladiators of ancient Rome sponsoring products to the sex symbol status of various starlets to the adulation heaped upon wave after wave of digital influencers, human society has never been starved for idols. In olden times, statues of these idols were commissioned, not so much in modern times. In the modern era, some of these idols do not become idols at all. They stay underground. They are loved, yes. But only by a handful. But to get that love requires a bit of indie rock music video promotion.

An indie rock band is like a regular rock band. The main difference is that an indie rock band does not have the backing of a major record label. This means that they will not have producers, sound engineers, publicists, or the connections to get an album in retailers. An indie band will also have to pay for recording sessions, touring, and merchandise out of pocket.

Even with corporate backing, promotion can be difficult. A performer can have all the talk show appearances and shows in the world and they will still flop. There is not lightning in a bottle when it comes to music. Talent and showmanship do not always win the day. There is no one factor that decides whether or not an act succeeds.

But social media has made promoting somewhat easier. Constant promoting across every social media platform can bring in some new fans. A single viral tweet can bring in hundred or even thousands of new listeners.

But no act would ever be complete without touring. Most performers earn the majority of their revenue from the proceeds gained from tours. Touring, that is travelling from one town to the next and playing venues of all kinds, can bring in publicity like nothing else.

Anyone who is in possession of a camera phone can shoot a music video. The truth is that most laptops now come with basic editing software, so all that is needed is a laptop that will not spontaneously explode and a phone with a passable camera. Of course, making a good video can cost thousands of dollars even without having to hire a film crew.

But above all else, the song should be good. Fans can forgive a crappy video. In fact, most people will only play a video in order to listen to the song.

Life can be rather plain. But there are moments where it can be spiced up. But those moments are just that, moments, and they are fleeting. If they are recorded, then they can be relived.
