"Discover" Pink Floyd With This 16 Disc Box Set

By Harold Joshua Quesenberry

The Pink Floyd Discovery Box Set contains all fourteen of their studio albums from their 1967 debut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn through their '70s masterpieces The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, and The Wall through their last album in 1994.

All of these CDs have been digitally remastered by the co-producer of The Wall.

Any classic rock fan who has heard the amazing gains in the quality of sound from the 1980s mastered Beatles CDs to the new remastered CDs contained in The Beatles in Stereo Box Set knows that this digital remastering so much more than simply an advertising ploy. A good remastered CD can allow you to listen to this music like never before.

Along with the music itself, the Discovery Box Set contains an exclusive artwork booklet by the band's long time art collaborator and each disc comes with a booklet which has complete lyrics for that album.

In addition to this 16 disc studio album "Discovery" box set (two of the 14 albums are double albums for a total of 16 discs) the band is also releasing three "Immersion" multi CD box sets for their three most popular LPs.

1973's The Dark Side of the Moon, 1975's Wish You Were Here, and 1979's The Wall are singled out with these "Immersion" box sets which are the most exciting thing for hardcore Pink Floyd fans since they contain previously unreleased alternate mixes, alternate recordings, and live recordings.

The Dark Side of the Moon Immersion 6 Disc Box Set seems especially exciting to me and not only because it is my very favorite Pink Floyd studio album but because it contains some really interesting bonus discs of unreleased recordings. Disc 2 has an entire performance of the album performed live in London in 1974! Disc 3 is a DVD which includes alternate surround sound mixes (5.1 & the Alan Parsons 1973 quad mix!), Disc 4 is a DVD which has concert screen films, live performances, and a documentary video on the album, Disc 5 is the material on DVD discs 3 and 4 on a bluray disc, and finally Disc 6 is a CD with more unreleased demos, alternate takes, and live performances.

These box sets also include some fun extra stuff such as collectors cards, ticket replicas, photo books, marbles, and a scarf!
