Even though we can buy the same music at stores, we still download songs fromthe net. Well, who would go and purchase music from the store when it can be downloaded from the net for free? Well, that has got its reverse side too. We all talk about how immoral music piracy is, but what we fail to understand is that if you download songs from illegal websites is nothing but a sort of piracy.

It is illegal to download songs for the following reasons. Any music, according to Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), is illegal if it is purchased from a website other than the authority. A copyright guards the creator's right to copy or distribute his music. Without the permission or consent of the creator, the audience cannot make copies of his composition.

We often have this wrong idea that it is right to download songs if they are paid for. But it is all the same, whether you download it without paying or pay for it. Millions of people depend on music for livelihood. Royalties support most of them. So, when you download their music from the net, instead of buying it from them, they suffer a loss both in terms of personal income and business. The music companies do not earn enough profit and this leaves them with a minimal amount to start off with for their new projects. Eventually, the sites charging money for the downloads, gain from the popularity of the albums.

However, we should know that along with harming the musicians, these downloads harm the downloaders also. When we want to download songs, we simply visit unfamiliar sites without knowing the ill effects on our own computer. Viruses damage the data stored in it. The best option to avoid these problems is to buy music from stores or legal downloading sites that can be found all over the web.

For a little older and less popular ones, we have to search harder or wait for their availability. It may seem difficult as compared to music downloads, but finally it's really worth it. Because you know you are actually doing some good to the musicians and music as a whole.
