Information About Classical Music Concerts

By Andy Ward

The thought of attending classical music concerts might intimidate those who are unfamiliar with this genre of music. Other reasons that can be easily overcome might include the prices of tickets or simply being unaware of what to anticipate.

Fortunately, anyone interested in attending the opera or a live orchestra performance can do so comfortably with some research on ticket prices and dress codes, and it is definitely a worthwhile experience.

Most people who are interested in attending a performance will most often check for the more famous composers or operas that are playing in their area. This can be problematic for those who are not as keen on attending shows by unknown composers or less-known operas.

Instead, read reviews or research some information about shows that are playing in your area before you decide whether or not you would like to see it. Preview the compositions by listening to a recording or by viewing samples of other live performances of the same opera or the same composer. Most will be surprised at the amount of beautiful pieces out there by less famous composers.

When it comes to looking up ticket prices, keep in mind that buying tickets in person at the box office might save you more money than buying tickets online. Some box office companies charge a convenience fee for buying online or for mailing the tickets to your home.

There are several theaters that sell tickets at half price if they still have seats available on the day of the performance. Since the show will go on with or without an audience, the theater would prefer to sell as many seats as possible even on discounted prices than to have empty seats. Also keep in mind that tickets for matinee and midweek shows are sold cheaper than those for Friday or Saturday evenings.

Finally, in preparation for the upcoming show, be sure to dress appropriately for the type of performance you are attending. Classical music concerts that take place during the day require a less formal dress code than those that take place in the evening. It is also a good idea to read a little about the composer or the story behind the opera before seeing the show. Unlike seeing a movie, you want to know what will happen since a good majority of the operas performed will not be in English.
