Turn the dial to get to the frequency you want. In no time, you will hear sounds coming out of the speakers. When it reaches your ears, you could always turn the dial again if you do not really like what you are hearing. There are different radio stations Connecticut has for its listeners.

Whether you are streaming it, or you are hardwired to your tuner, you always have formats to choose from. You, as the listener, have full control on which one to choose and for how long you would listen to it. To make sure that listeners find no reason to change the dial, they make sure that the format and target audience match. Here are just some of the formats heard on the airwaves.

You may have the oldies format. A more apt name for this format would be golden hits. In a way this is quite a broad format. Considering that it could range from the 50's to 90's music. What it makes sure is that the old songs played are considered as gold.

You may have the personality format. With this format, it is more of talk than music. It relies on the personality who may be hosting, co-hosting or even as a guest. This may include certain commentary and parody on current events. This seeks to entertain listeners primarily with this. It could even include interviews and features on some famous and interesting personalities, with a bit of music in between.

There is the rock format. This is quite broad in scope. Many genres and sub-genres may be mixed and matched to blend into a still-rock format. Categorizing the rock format may wall within the different ranges of styles that tie in all artists featured.

There is the smooth jazz format. This is mainly for providing a relaxed environment. There is no need to even tune in and focus on what the notes and lyrics are. It is aimed to let the listeners simply relax and have good music in the background that would not be too distracting to what is going on.

You may have the standards. This type of format plays any song for the past 60 years that is not classified under rock. It may be the popular mainstream music of the previous eras. It could even include recent interpretations of the standards from a certain period.

There is the urban format. Soul and hip-hop are only a few of the genres that can be found on its programming. These are targeted to pique the interest of young adults and teenagers, as they are the target audience. For adding more appeal to adults, soul and r and b hits around 20 years older or more could be added.

Those are only a couple of the formats that can be heard from the various radio stations Connecticut. With such a diverse selection, you may end up having one choice for every time your mood changes. But, to stick to just one, make sure you understand your personality and your tastes to keep your dial on one frequency.
