For music stores Austin, Texas has an incomparable range of choices for a city its size. The town has long been known for its exceptional nightlife and quality live entertainment. Therefore, it should be unsurprising that the city has excellent shops as well. These outlets specialize in everything from used records and compact discs to supplying artists with expensive custom made guitars and other instruments.

For records and compact discs, Waterloo Records on Lamar Street has a vast selection of offerings including local artists and independent labels. They also carry all the familiar nationally known pop, hip hop, rock and roll and country artists on CD. In addition, to chart topping albums, they sell hard to find classics as well.

For purchasing retail musical equipment such as drums, guitars, keyboards and other instruments, Strait Music is a great place to shop. They have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and their staff really understands the needs of musicians. They have two locations in town. The south side store on Ben White Road and a newer north side location.

Near the University of Texas, Antone's Record Shop features hard to locate albums in their original vinyl format. The shop and the attached club specialize in blues, but other genres are also well represented in the store's selections.

In addition to these three stores, the capital city has a number of other shops that either sell instruments and equipment or records and CDs. These shops can be found anywhere in the city from downtown and areas near Sixth Street to the north end and south ends of town. Some are specialty shops, while others are eclectic and have a wide variety of instruments or records for sale.

For music stores Austin is hard to beat. The city has a long musical tradition and the local stores are well staffed with helpful and knowledgeable professionals. Most offer equipment and records at reasonable prices. Read more about: Music Stores Austin
