3 Used Fender Guitars You Can Afford

By Rand MacCartney

If you're looking for top-notch guitar sound, for a reasonable price, a used fender guitar might just be your best bet.

Here are 3 models to keep in mind when looking for a cheap used fender guitar to help you save money--and get a great deal.

Option No.1: The Stratocaster

From the futuristic sound of Pink Floyd to the modern blues sound Eric Clapton made famous, playing a Fender Strat is the ultimate expression of modern guitar chic.

If you need that vintage fender sound-with those famous Fender single-coil pickups-go with a used Fender American Standard Stratocaster guitar. New they run about a grand, but you should be able to find a used model for 600 dollars.

For the more budget-conscious, another option if the Fender Standard Strat. Created in a Fender factory in Mexico, this fine-sounding guitar can generally be found used for about 1-200 dollars.

Looking for Stratocaster used fender guitars for under 200 dollars? Go with a Squier Stratocaster. These models made in places like China and Indonesia may not have the same exact high-end strat sound, but they're perfect for beginner's and part-time players.

Option No.2: The Fender Telecaster

For those wanting a more bright, rich tone a used fender telecaster is the way to go. Like the strat, fender telecasters also come with different levels such as the Fender Telecaster American special and the Fender Telecaster Standard.

But some of the biggest deals can be had with the Fender Telecaster American Deluxe. This high-end model has a Strat-like contoured body-for comfort-but has all the signature bright output of a Fender Telecaster.

Option No.3: Going Acoustic

If you're like me, you hear the word Fender and you think of their electric models. But some of most underrated guitars available might just be their high-quality acoustic models.

Fender acoustic models like the Starcaster and the DG8S offer top-tier craftsmanship and a robust tone. (In addition these acoustics usually hold onto their value in the future--a good thing when buying a pre-owned guitar.)

And if you like one-stop shopping, Fender offers a ton of great acoustic packages, where you can get a case, tuner, strings and a great guitar to boot.
