Al Gomes A Crafty Promoter

By Lena Cervantes

Al Gomes is a great self promoter. He is linked throughout the internet. From blogs to the company sponsored websites, he is well known. He can even boast a Wikipedia page.

Gomes founded the company Big Noise in 1990 to help independent artists break into the music industry. Some blogs claim that this company is willing to provide guidance to newly signed musicians by helping them with art direction and distribution of their records. And these are very complimentary.

Many questions are circulating to whether or not he worked with Christina Aguilera, Little Anthony, or Andrew MacCarthy. And has he exaggerated his accomplishments. Then, on the other hand, perhaps this is a scheme is nothing more than a public relations ploy.

His website readily promotes his support for The Band Wagon Project. This was a music based charity event. It brought in loads of money to bring awareness to the homeless and their need for food. Al Gomes is also marketing his song Three Side of Hunger on this site.

And yet, even with his humanitarian efforts, rumors circulate. It doesn't totally make sense. However, there are some warning signs as to whether or not a company is legitimate or not. Disreputable companies usually do two things. First they play to the artist's ego. And secondly, they want their money. And apparently, from what people are saying, Big Noise has been responsible for doing both.

Be on guard of any company or agent who simply says, 'Your music is great', or 'it sounds wonderful'. If they are legitimate, they will say more than that. It is difficult to become famous, and every good agent knows this.

If they ask for money, walk away. Real publishers and agents receive a cut from the music. The artist's success means their success. So naturally they will take a special interest in the person they have signed.

Always ask lots of questions. Be cold and hard. Interrogate them about specifics. Demand to know everything up front. An honest company will have nothing to hide. In fact, they will have an abundance of information. Scam companies, on the other hand, will often falter and stumble. They also might become extremely defensive.

It sure looks like Big Noise is taking advantage of people. And from the ongoing reports it may very well be true. And then again, all of this, just might be clever public relations with a negative twist. Of course, Al Gomes has yet to comment.
