The World's Best Music Venues

By Corey C. Butler

A great venue can really make a music event come to life. It's fair enough if you just want to go and see your favourite bands play wherever, but if you've got an open mind the joy of going along to a cool place and listening to whoever comes on stage is a music thrill that's hard to beat. The energy is all the more powerful when you're discovering a venue in a foreign land for the first time. These are some of the places you don't want to miss if you're looking for a cool night out.

It's seems fair to start with England's best. You may have heard of a little place called the Royal Albert Hall. It's not exactly a secret, but the reputation's well founded. If you get a chance to see an act you like there, go for it. For the other end of the spectrum you might want to check out The Shed in the North of England. This village hall in Hovingham with a thrilling sixty four-person capacity is host to all manner of weird and wonderful jazz and folk acts. Greek Street in London hosts another tiny venue called The Hideout, where acts play for private functions in a 'caravan' in a flat above a shop. It's very Alice in Wonderland.

Europe knows how to do grand events too, with some incredible Opera houses, such as the famous La Scala in Milan. If opera isn't really your thing, why not head to Budapest for the dance music event that is A38. This boat is the venue of choice for all manner of electronic fans. Heavy rock finds its home in Wild at Heart in Berlin, where things are pretty whisky-soaked, and where the gigs and loud and pleasantly dangerous.

Right at the other end of the danger spectrum you find Liquid Room in Tokyo. The Japanese clubbers are super-friendly, and the whole atmosphere, and the music, is fun and unique. The US might be well known for spectacle, but on of the lesser known incredible venues if Gorge Amphitheatre in Washington State. You almost can't fathom the view that goes along with this open-air extravaganza.

And that's just a small selection of the best. You can find plenty of others that will blow your mind with how good they are.
