Now you know how MIDI controllers works, let us take a closer look at the numerous parts that make up our MIDI controller.

There are 2 basic parts of a MIDI controller: the keys and the controllers. These are the ones you will be getting acquainted with as we are going through this article. These keys and controllers change their numbers, functions, and sizes depending on the model or brand of MIDI keyboard you purchase. Some MIDI controllers are compact and lightweight and some aren't. Naturally, it will depend on whatever you choose to buy, dependent on your wishes and preferences.

Firstly, there are the keys. These are the piano-like keys that are placed at the center of your MIDI controller. These keys vary on their sizes, numbers, and touch. If you have got a huge studio and you are only playing your MIDI controller inside the comforts of your studio, then you can go ahead and buy the full-on 62, 73, or 88-keys MIDI keyboard.

But if you are on-the-go music maker, then you can select the transportable MIDI keyboard with 25, 37, or 49 keys. The keys also alter in touch. This touch comprises the aftertouch, the weighted or unweighted characteristic, the actual feel of the keys, and whether the keys are velocity-sensitive. These features will be further discussed in other articles.

Next among the basic parts include the controllers. These controllers include the various faders, knobs, buttons, wheels, drum pads and programme selectors. All these control a specific function. Functions include modulation, pitch, switch modes, hardware MIDI synths, and others.

Depending on your MIDI controller, these controllers can either be assignable or pre-set for the sake of convenience. These controllers make music making simpler and more fun!

These 2 are the main parts of MIDI controller keyboards but there are still others, there are ports you use to connect the MIDI controller keyboard to your laptop PC and other stuff. These make-up your MIDI controller keyboard. Know it, understand it, play it.
