Choosing The Right Cordless Headphones

By Frank Muller

Listening to music is great but sometimes the cords on your headphones can get in the way. Some portable players cut out the sound when the cords come loose and this can be very awkward, especially if you are listening while doing exercise or working outside. This is why cordless headphones could be a better alternative and could give you more freedom to enjoy your music.

In recent years clubs have taken part in a phenomenon known as silent disco. This is where people with headphones choose their own type of music to dance to. There is also the added benefit of being able to remove them and to talk with people without having to resort to rudimentary club based signed language.

There are around three types of connection that this type of headset offers. There are radio frequency models, infra red and Bluetooth technology. What type you buy depends largely on what you need them for. For example if you are using them to listen at your desk then it is unlikely you will need a model with a longer range.

Most of the models will have their own internal batteries that are depleted with long use. These can be charged using a mains adapter. The best type will offer you eight hours on a single charge. This is especially good if you travel a lot and may not necessarily have access to a power point. It can be very annoying listening to a song and then having your headphones lose power right in the middle of it!

With a lot of cordless products they often have built in rechargeable batteries. Battery life can vary between different products so you should look this. The best ones can play for up to 8 hours on a single charge. This is ideal if you are travelling and may not have access to a power point for a long period of time.

Comfort and durability are other things to consider. Ideally they should be something you will be prepared to wear for a while without them hurting your ears. You may also want to consider a wipe clean model to make them relatively easy to clean. Durable models are better than cheaper and more flimsy models for the simple reason they would have to be replaced more often.

A good idea is to go to your local electronics store and ask to try the cordless headphones in store. This will give you an idea of how the headphones pick up the sound. It is also sensible to look at consumer feedback to find the best model to suit your own individual needs. Be careful of any overly positive or negative reviews as this may be spam posts. It is also sensible to check several sites to find the best possible deal.
