There is quite a lot of components that go into making up the average home theater system. To really get the full blown 'movie going' experience the most important component is probably the surround sound system. While there are many pieces of equipment for the average home theater that can be purchased over time, surround sound is typically one component that needs to be purchased together if possible, at the very least it is wise to purchase the speakers as a set rather than mixing and matching quality and sounds.

Just as a good home theater experience relies on the quality of the surround sound system so to do does the quality of the surround sound system rely on the quality of the speakers. You can skimp on some aspects of quality in amplifiers, receivers, and even tuners but if you skimp on the quality of your speakers it will not matter how much of an investment you've made in everything else because the sound will be inferior.

People define their movie going experiences differently. Some like the smell of freshly popped popcorn, others will enjoy the choc topped ice creams more, or the sweet smell of syrup from soda fountains. There are many however, who find that sound is what sets the theater apart from home movie viewing and the one thing that keeps them coming back despite the interruptions provided by other patrons with cell phones, hungry children, or frequent trips to the restrooms.

Advances in technology can now help us to bring this same quality of sound into our homes. With decreasing prices due to increased competition, technological advances and supply and demand the movie going sound experience is now more affordable than ever. Each year produces more advance models making last years model redundant. Sometimes we're talking about a life cycle of months instead of years. Remember when a DVD player cost well over $300 for a basic model. If you have a spare $30 you can now get one that has a lot more features than the very first super expensive models. Can you imagine how little surround sound systems will be selling for an a few short years?

Box systems are a popular item and we are already seeing major price drops on systems that are available today. Gone are the days when these systems were merely the off brands trying to generate some sells by offering a low price and questionable quality. The boxed surround sound systems of today are carrying well-known names as their brands and providing some pretty stiff competition to those who aren't willing to offer the box sets when it comes to price.

It's still a great idea to have a listen to your system before you actually make the final purchase. Your system may not sound the same in your home as it does in the shop but you will still get an idea of the problems you may encounter which will save you both time and money in the long run.
