Awesome Worth - Wireless Home Stereo Review

By Mason White

The headphones presented a very wide soundstage with ample presence but not too much "air". As I stated above these are very warm sounding headphones.

To be specific, Sound staging is quite good. Bass is full, prompt, and accurate.

I have used a Sennheiser RS-65 wireless headphone since 2002. The RS-65 was a pretty good wireless set. The whole unit does look nice, however. I'd rate it a "C-" in ease of use and an "A" in sound quality.

Another flaw - ALC button (to boost speech range)is located on transmitter only, so you have to walk to it to turn it on if you have a hard time hearing dialogs in movies. This is why I gave it 3 out of 5 for ease of use.

It is sufficient for my needs. Lastly, the 180's are as comfortable to wear as the 130's.

I have been charging and allowing the phones to completely discharge for a week now and I'm getting 8-10 hours listening time. I'm still far from the 24 hours they claim however. I should note that while I was listening to this selection I was moving around my approx. 1100 hem in an 1100 square foot apartment with no loss of fidelity at all. Problem is controls, the power and volume up and down buttons on next to each other. You always accidentally turn the headphones off while trying to turn up or down the audio. I do periodically get a brief "hiccup" in the sound when I'm in the remote areas of the house, when I'm outside grilling on the patio, and when I walk into the garage. None of those distances exceed 150 feet, so I do question whether these headphones truly have a 320-foot line-of-sight range that Sennheiser advertises. The RS 180 features ALC, which will boost mid-range in the interest of speech intelligibility. If you find it is too much, you can turn it off. This was entirely the fault of the Sony. Having said that, the sheer ability of this set to reproduce sound simply overcame the shortcomings.

I've tried these with music and TV, and both sound great. Regarding the volume control, there is a tradeoff. They were expensive but I use them for so much now that they were worth the money I spent, for sure. And they are so easy to store and charge on the base- they are always ready to use.
