They just take some getting used to. All things considered, I highly recommend them. When they're ready, start the source, hold down the button on the base for a few seconds until it blinks, and hold down the button on your headphone for a few seconds. They handle sound-levels so well that you might be a little deceived.

When, in time, the batteries are exhausted, I can simply purchase replacements at the grocery store and change them out in less than a minute. I was SO PLEASED with the RS 180, that I purchased a second pair to carry with me to field locations. I find the 130's much easier to change volume since it is a simple roll of a wheel but the 180's won't change volume while lying on my side. The 180's do take some getting used to if you want to change volume while you're wearing the headphones. The two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries will run the cans for 24 hours, and all I have to do to recharge them is to "hang" the headset on the transmitter. There's nothing to plug in. Panasonic I think. I wanted to spend the money and get something with better sound and more comfort. Wow, I have been waiting literally years for a quality set of wireless headphones. I listened to many including the previous generation of Sennheiser's. The RS 160 didn't have enough RANGE to cover my home, and wanted the increased range and AGC (automatic gain control) to tame loud passages. I am thrilled with the new RS 180!

Everything is well designed and well-constructed. It all feels very solid. There are a lot of controls that take some getting used to, but once you learn where the controls are it's easy to adjust the volume, etc. These are over the ear, open style with velour pads which makes for very comfortable listening.

Both the 180's and 130's are open, so this is not explained by some type of closed environment in the 130's. It is something with the technology of the 180's that creates a slight delay in sound transmission.

First, let me say that these come highly recommended. Sennheiser fixed some of the problems that plagued their previous wireless headphones.

Virtual surround sound makes you feel like you're at the movies. You never have to worry about dead batteries, they come with rechargeable batteries & the base where you store your head phones is a recharging station. They are just Ni-Cad AAA batteries so you should just be able to replace them with standard, inexpensive rechargeable AAAs when they eventually die. Build quality is excellent. I should note that while I was listening to this selection I was moving around my approx. 1100 hem in an 1100 square foot apartment with no loss of fidelity at all.
