Sony Earphones - Wireless Mp3 Head Phones Review

By Avery Bennett

The headphones are rather large and ugly, but not heavy or uncomfortable. I can wear them for hours with no particular discomfort -- though in warmer weather, I might have a different opinion.

You will venture forth into a new world of audio pleasure. If the Sennheiser RS-180 was a painting it would be a masterpiece by Kandinsky or Dali; a sculpture, La Pieta via Michelangelo, a song, something by Lennon & McCartney. They have very reasonable range and auto-volume adjusts. NO extraneous noise.

Guys if you are ever banished to the Man Cave and still catch hell for the TV or movie being up too loud......worry no more. I realize they are a lot of money (I managed to get mine for under $230) but I think in the long run they are going to be worth every penny.

First, let me say that these come highly recommended. Sennheiser fixed some of the problems that plagued their previous wireless headphones. I get around this by putting half a headband from a HD 280 in the groove between the cushions so that the pressure is spread between the top of my head and the sides. This works well, but why does the customer have to come up with a work around for such a problem? This is simply not true, and I don't know why he told me this. This is not a negative about the 180's since maybe nobody is looking for this feature except me, but it is a severe mis-statement of fact by a Sennheiser representative. On the RS140s, the volume was just a scroll wheel that could be easily located and adjusted quickly, for instance, when you want to shut up "Crazy Larry's" TV commercial. The sound is not well-suited to TV listening either. The wireless range extends through multiple walls (YMMV). I've had these about a week and I think they're great. Everything considered I would recommend this headset highly to anyone! I bought this wireless headphone system to use while watching TV late at night, so I won't wake my spouse who sleeps upstairs above the TV room. The ONLY thing they need is a remote, as the control buttons are too close together making adjustments difficult while on your head. They are very comfortable and can be worn for extended lengths of time.

The uncompressed digital really makes a difference. The only negative as mentioned in earlier reviews is the buttons which could be more defined which would make it easier when they are on your head but this isn't a show stopper.

The two AAA NiMH rechargeable batteries will run the cans for 24 hours, and all I have to do to recharge them is to "hang" the headset on the transmitter. There's nothing to plug in. Interestingly, when the models 110 and 120 go out of range you get static, but the 180 just cuts off (which is slightly better I think). The range is essentially exactly the same, maybe 70 feet for the models 110 and 120, and 72 feet for the model 180. When they're ready, start the source, hold down the button on the base for a few seconds until it blinks, and hold down the button on your headphone for a few seconds. They handle sound-levels so well that you might be a little deceived.
