Varied Broadcasts Of Radio Stations Connecticut

Many listeners will find interesting broadcasts on radio stations Connecticut. A wide array of musical genres and talk shows are provided. Blues, hip hop, world, classical, rock and roll and jazz are among the varied music programming.

Wesleyan University broadcasts at 88.1 FM. Their call letters are WESU. Based in Middletown, they have provided alternative programming since 1939. Their programming schedule includes NPR and Pacifica news, as well as a variety of music. A 2011 Hartford Advocate reader's poll ranked them as the second best college broadcast organization in the area.

Located in Monroe, WMNR broadcasts fine arts programs. The commercial-free group is funded by foundations, businesses and listeners. More than 90 percent of their broadcasts are centered on classical music. Summer presentations of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's performances are broadcast live from Tanglewood in Lennox.

WVOF, 88.5 FM, is presented by Fairfield University. The mission of the student-run group is to provide informative, cultural and entertaining programming. Highlights include weekday broadcasts of All Things Considered. Irish Melodies, Polish Heritage, Celtic Crossroads and Jazz Attitudes are among the musical presentations.

Another college-run entity is WRTC, 89.3 FM. Based at Trinity College in Hartford, their rich programming schedule includes jazz, classical, gospel, Latin and soul music. They provide online audio streams from their website.

As a member of the public broadcasting system, WMPR in Norwich broadcasts a wide array of shows. At 89.1 FM, listeners will find Living on Earth, Talk of the Nation, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, Where We Live, BirdNote and other notable talk shows. An array of music programming features Spotlight on Jazz, the Sunday Spotlight, the Saturday Night Special, and Blues and Beyond.

From Norfolk, WSGG is focused on Spanish shows. At 89.3 FM, they present both talk and music programming. Their weekday schedule features the Children's Program and Heavy Generation, both youth-oriented. All their shows are family-friendly, and are broadcast 24 hours each day.

Weaver High School presents urban contemporary shows at 89.9 FM in Hartford. The entity was established during the 1960s in order to meet the unique needs of their urban listeners. The diversity of shows on their schedule includes the Vybez, Uptown Groove, Friday Flashback, Jazz Odyssey, Nite Traxx, Friday Gospel and Into the Night.

Regardless of preference, there are radio stations Connecticut suitable to all listeners. Whether interested in family programming, public broadcasts, college organizations or talk shows, there are many broadcasts available.
